Last week I was invited by Grey Goose to their 17th century chateau, located at a tiny village named Juillac-le-Coq, a 20 minute drive from Cognac, right in the heart of the French wine land. The amazing chateau can be visited on an invitation only basis. Once arrived we were greeted by our amazing hostsess Nadia Melot, who literally manages the entire home to the finest detail. From there on we had excellent food and well, lots of the world’s best vodka! The visit included an induction to the history of the brand by the man himself, Francois Thibault, a mixology lesson and a fun bread-making class led by Nadia. Our rooms were very cozy, just like the rest of the communal spaces like Le Salon and the breakfast area in the kitchen. Winter felt too long this year and I couldn’t be any happier to see it go. But this transition from the cold, dark winter to the fresh and bright spring is something you can really enjoy and appreciate only when you are away from the city, in the nature. So when my friend Ilaria asked me to join her for a short business trip to Mykonos I was thrilled. As you already know, if you follow my journeys, Mykonos is my most visited island, I have been many times and at different seasons, from winter to summer. This time though it was unique. The island was so green and lush that it felt like being somewhere else. The locals said it’s because of the heavy rainfalls during the winter. It was quite windy during my stay, so unfortunately no swimming, but perfect for long walks on the beaches and enjoying this beautiful season where one should, the outdoors!
Greece is a country perceived by most foreigners as a summer destination. Fantastic beaches to swim at, tavernas to enjoy your ouzo and meze and little white washed cycladic houses. But more often than not, there can be more whiteness than expected during winter. It’s usually not as severe as it’s been lately, but snowfall is very common in certain regions during the winter months and even early spring, making Greece a fantastic all year round destination. I was lucky enough to experience one of the greatest snowfalls, considering that I was on an island, Evia. Check some of the photos I shot from this extreme weather phenomenon, where the entire village of Steni is half buried under tons of pure white snow.
I was more than intrigued when I received my invitation for Christina’s New Year’s Eve party. To me, and to many others I’m sure, the holiday season stopped being fun when my childhood ended. Instead of a time off school, with endless presents, lots of favorite foods and games in the snow with my cousins, it had become a tightly scheduled period, with endless obligations and days of hectic work. Of course, I have to admit there are a few nights that are destined for fun, and Christina’s reception was one of those…Christina is a great cook, with her own catering service, renowned for her amazing parties, always with the best music, the tastiest finger food and the most eclectic cocktails. On the night of the event I had a friendly couple over for some cocktails to warm us up…
Just like last year, I am back in the wonderful village of Ano Doliana, in Arkadia, to spend the holiday season with good friends. I guess you can call it luck, but exactly like the previous time, it snowed while I was there. And this village and it’s surrounding area look fantastic in snow. Of course I didn’t miss a chance to get out and take some photos of the beautiful winter landscapes. I had another good reason this time; to test my brand new Canon 5D IV and of course the fantastic Sony A6300. If you are ever in this little village, it’s good to know there are two traditional taverns serving really nice home made food and of course the best lamb chops and round cut pan-fried potatoes. It was great fun making a portrait of one of the owners! Check the photos below.
