It’s been a year since I started trying to get into the new EMST building, Athens’ new Museum of Contemporary Art. I have been negotiating this with the Museum staff and it’s been really difficult for various reasons, one of them being the Museum not being ready. The building is the old Fix beer factory, a landmark in the area which for years has been under reconstruction and most Athenians have been impatient to visit it. The time is near for this, as the first step has been made and slowly the museum will be ready to open to the public. This Saturday 17/5 I got invited to a press conference and I was allowed to bring some fellow photographers with me to shoot the inside of the new EMST. I must say I am very happy I had the opportunity for early access to this beautiful, new art space in the city. I can’t wait to shoot it again and looking forward to see it opening to the public soon. Here are some photos I managed to take so you can also get an idea of the building’s interior, as well as some more fun shots with my friends!

WWIM11
For the 11th World Wide Instameet we decided to meet up at the Olympic Sport Complex in Athens on Sunday 22 March. This was my fourth Instameet and I am very happy to see this community grow bigger and stronger every time. The weather didn’t really help much to be outside as much as we would have liked, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Getting out of your comfort zone is always rewarding to your creativity. I got lost inside the complex with @malddim and we had such a laugh. It was great to see old friends and really nice meeting new ones! Here are some shots from the wwim11_athens! If you are feeling nostalgic see the post from WWIM9
#emptystegi
This short time that I have been working with Stegi, some amazing things have happened. One of them is that I was given the chance to arrange an Instagram event along the lines of the #empty movement that has been happening in museums around the world.
The team at Stegi (Onassis Cultural Center) is very forward thinking & always edgy in everything that they do, so arranging the event was a breeze. But what’s even better, there are many more digital events to come. I couldn’t be any happier working with such an institution! Here are some of my shots from the event but you can also follow @stegi_occ on Instagram & check #emptystegi for more excellent content!
O.A.K.A photo walk
A late post but it’s never too late for some portraiture! This area in Marousi has been photographed so many times that we knew this photo walk was more about hanging out with each other and having a laugh rather than doing any actual shooting. And then the sun was setting and the summer light became magical. Time to shoot some happy faces!
Neratza Hotel
The usual Sunday get together. Hot summer day, but what better option for exploration than an abandoned hotel by the beach? You can always go for a swim after shooting!
#everchangingberlin
My second visit to Berlin was much different than the first one. The reason for visiting was the second European Instameet. I had never participated into such an event before, so I really didn’t know what to expect. It only took a few minutes after my friends and I landed in Berlin, to realize that an amazing weekend was ahead of us.
Lavrio Playground
This habit of getting together with people I have met through instagram and I now consider friends is something that really excites me. I have been busy lately and didn’t have enough free time for instawalks, but this Saturday I managed to squeeze into one.
WWIM9
Instameets are fun, this I’ve learned. Last weekend, the 9th world wide instameet took place and IGers all over the world gathered up to shoot and hang out. Seventeen of us, plus Grappa, showed up for the Athens meet. Our tag was #wwim9_ath and you can check the entries by clicking on it. Here are just some extras I took with the Canon.
Keratexas Base
I’ve been busy with stuff and so I haven’t posted anything for a while but this Sunday I was determined to make the time and arrange something with my friends. An abandoned military base at the top of a mountain sounded just about right.
Secret Loutsa
Our last Sunday gathering didn’t look too promising. We were almost sure that there wouldn’t be much photographic interest in Loutsa plus the boring weather had us almost convinced that this would just be a hanging out only get together. But there is always beauty everywhere. All you need to do is look for it..
